We’re just a few days away from the start of Wisconsin’s 2024 Global Trade Venture to Canada. (Visit our website to learn more about this year’s participating companies.)
Events like these are important; they help small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) access opportunities in new markets. And since SMEs are significant contributors to any economy, accessing new markets is a good way to keep them – and their local economies – strong.
The International Trade Administration’s website has a comprehensive list of reasons why SMEs should export to new markets. And we’re lucky here in North America – the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA, or USMCA as it’s known in the U.S.) and its predecessor NAFTA were designed to help businesses by ensuring that goods and services could cross our borders with few impediments. Specific ways the USMCA helps SMEs are listed here, but the bottom line, it’s a great roadmap to economic prosperity for the three member countries – and their SMEs.
Services are available to help SMEs expand to new markets; we’ve got resources for companies in our client states listed on our blog. If your company is not in one of these geographic areas, we urge you to connect directly with your state’s export office.
