Exporting/importing into Canada? You’ll need to read this.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) “facilitates the flow of legitimate travellers and trade… [and] also enforces more than 90 acts and regulations that keep our country and Canadians safe.” The CBSA is also undergoing a multi-year project that will ultimately simplify and streamline import processes – and companies that export to Canada should be aware of these changes.

CBSA’s upgrade project is called CARM, and is being rolled out in phases. The first phase involved data configuration changes that didn’t affect the system’s current users; a big change will will come about next month when CARM launches its Client Portal – a self-service tool that will coordinate accounting and revenue management processes with the CBSA. The Client Portal’s functionalities will further expand in the spring of 2022.

Carson International‘s website has a great resource page dedicated to helping companies prepare for CARM, complete with a guide to CARM and where to set up your CARM Client Portal user account. Be sure to check their web page – and monitor our blog for updates as they become available.
