Things to consider when doing business in Canada.

We thoroughly enjoyed this morning’s webinar, Doing Business in Canada (with information presented by law firm Green and Spiegel).

There are a number of things to consider when visiting Canada for business, such as:

  • The length and nature of the visit,
  • Whether you are entering from a visa-exempt country (i.e. the U.S., U.K., France, Mexico) or a non visa-exempt country (i.e. India, China),
  • If there is something in your background that may prohibit entry into Canada,
  • If you are coming from a country which has an existing trade agreement with Canada,
  • If an ‘after-sales service’ clause has been written into the Canadian client’s original purchase order,
  • If you have compiled all the necessary business and personal documents to travel, and
  • If you have specialized skills, or can speak French.

The preparation might seem daunting, but travelling unprepared can impede business activities. While the Government of Canada has a lot of relevant information on its website, some issues may require the services of an immigration lawyer.

We love helping our client companies find opportunities in the Canadian marketplace. Preparing for a smooth border crossing is part of the process. Careful preparation – and seeking professional help, where applicable – can yield great success.
