New blog post day falls on July 1 – our nation’s birthday!
Because of this fortuitous turn of events, we thought it would be a great time to share some interesting Canada facts with our readers. Scroll down to learn some neat stuff about Canada (and Canadians).
We love our donuts. Canadians consume the most donuts (or, doughnuts) and have the most donut shops per capita of any country in the world (Japan is a close second). About 43 million donuts are served across the country each month – and that includes a lot of maple glazed treats.
Canadians invented Trivial Pursuit. The board game Time Magazine called “the biggest phenomenon in game history” was first conceived of in late 1979 by a Montreal Gazette photo editor and a sports journalist with The Canadian Press. The game was officially launched in 1981, and is now sold in roughly 26 countries and 17 languages.
Our national flag is relatively young. Canada, the country, was born in 1867, but until 1967 our country’s flag and symbols largely reflected its British history. The search for a new national flag was launched in the early-to-mid 1960s and culminated in the single maple leaf and two red borders that is so easily recognized today. Happy Canada Day, everyone!
